Jonestown Location

Aside from by boat, there is but one way to Jonestown — the road passing through Jonestown and it is FM 1431.  To the north, FM 1431 goes through Lago Vista, Smithwick and Marble Falls.  To the south and east, it goes through Cedar Park and Round Rock at I-35.  Once a winding, hilly road, FM 1431 is less that today after completion of a major project to straighten and widen it in 2008.

Austin is 19 miles to the south southeast.

Jonestown Life

Jonestown is an older close-in lake community with some nice progress underway.  The standby Jones Brothers Park is quite large and has been the go-to lake access for years and features boat ramps, tennis, basketball, playground, picnic pavilions, wide open fields and great views down the lake channel.

New in Jonestown are a regional fire station, police headquarters, shopping plaza, the new Pecan Bottom Park and a custom homebuilder.

A large, upscale housing development called The Hollows with large homes and big lots has sprang up along the shores of Lake Travis and the adjacent cliffs the past few years.  Complete with marina, golf and pool, it is growing at a brisk pace.

Jonestown Schools

Jonestown has no schools.  The three schools there were in the 90’s have consolidated with either the schools of Leander ISD or Lago Vista ISD.

Jonestown Community Events

Annually, Jonestown puts on its community events for residents and visitors alike: KLBJ fishing tournament; Texas Chili cook off; and Easter egg hunt.  Each is conducted at the Jones Brothers Park.  Also at Jones Brothers Park in September each year is “Oktoberfest,” with live music, food and refreshments, Lakefest 5K Challenge fun run, car show, games, face painting and bounce house.

Coming up the weekend of Oct. 21 in Jones Brothers Park will be four performances by the internationally-known Culpepper & Merriweather Circus under the big top.  March 31, 2012, will be the Cajun Cook-Off.
