Stone Canyon is a master planned community of 960 homes and 1,500 residents in Round Rock, Williamson County, Texas.  It is governed by the Stone Canyon Owners Association with fees set at $400 per year.  It is part of the Fern Bluff Municipal Utility District and is a secluded neighborhood not on any major roads.

Stone Canyon Location

Stone Canyon is not on a major road so residents benefit from a quieter isolation as a result.  It is situated between Great Oaks Drive on the west, Wyoming Springs Drive (extended) | Creek Bend subdivision on the east, Brightwater Creek Bend Blvd. | Fern Bluff subdivision on the south and Hairy Man Road | Brushy Creek on the north.  It’s small in area, comprising only 2/3 of a square mile.  There are two ways to get here: via Brushy Creek Road and RM 620.  From Brushy Creek Road at Great Oaks Drive, go south to the first left | east turn, which is Brightwater Creek Bend Blvd.  It takes you right into Stone Canyon.  The other way is from RM 620.  Two miles west of I-35 near the Round Rock Medical Center and Walgreen’s, turn north | right onto Wyoming Springs Drive.  From there, just under a mile drive gets you into Stone Canyon.

Downtown Austin is 18 miles to the south.  Austin has the most dining, shopping and employers in the area, of course, but within a five-minute drive, many can also be found in Round Rock — the area’s second-leading provider of such.  An HEB grocery store is one mile away and a new Sprouts Farmers Market store is fewer than two miles away.

Stone Canyon Amenities

Stone Canyon was developed in 1992.  At that time, the developer added some nice amenities to the community, which the POA owns, operates and maintains today.  Here residents enjoy a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool, community center, miles of hiking and jogging trails, and playscapes in parks.  From places within Stone Canyon, the famous Texas Hill Country and views can be experienced.

Stone Canyon Schools

Stone Canyon lies smack dab in the middle of the Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD).  As such, the schools assigned to Stone Canyon school children are:

  • Fern Bluff Elementary, just across Brightwater Creek Bend Blvd.
  • Chisholm Trail Middle School
  • Round Rock High School

There are other private preschools, K-12 schools in the area.  Right next to Round Rock High, for example, is Round Rock Christian Academy.  There are higher education campuses a few miles up I-35 at University Blvd.

Stone Canyon Real Estate

The resale market is well established in Stone Canyon.  In the last 12 months, 48 homes sold through the Austin Central Texas Realty Information Service’s MLS.  They sold between zero days on the market and 332, with an average of 69 — a couple weeks faster than the Austin MLS average.  Homes had between three and five bedrooms and two and four bathrooms, with medians of four and two.  They ranged in size from 1,817 square feet up to 4,008, with an average of 2,724.  They sold between $165,000 and $337,400 and had an average price of $233,963.
